Church historian Phyllis Tickle observed that throughout its history, Christianity has undergone a sea change about every 500 years -- and that now, 500 years after the Reformation and on the heels of the digital revolution, is one of those sea-change times.
St. George’s agrees. Having dwindled in size due to the limitations of church- and Christianity-as-usual, and felt our own restlessness with the same, we've thrown in our lot wholeheartedly with whatever the future of Christianity is becoming. We now consider ourselves a feisty re-start-up gathering of innovators -- a gathering open to all spiritual pioneers who are interested in exploring a Christian faith for the 21st century.
Worship at St. George’s is a changing mix of old and new elements, to carry forward the best of Episcopal/Christian tradition, and also introduce fresh expressions of it. In place of a sermon there’s open dialogue, where questions are posed and everyone chimes in with what they believe, and finds inspiration from others. Communion is open to any and all, just as everyone was always welcome at meals with Jesus.
Programs to be offered in the offshoot Nourishing Spirits Center (still in development) will focus on the basic teachings of Jesus, connected to today; and also on spiritual enrichment through time in nature, conversation with other faiths, and connections between faith and contemporary life and ethics.
The goal is to provide an arena in which everyone can explore, express, and clarify their beliefs, and celebrate those of others, as together we discern the ways in which God is present in our lives today, and calling us to love all of our neighbors.
From Wikipedia:
Progressive Christianity is characterized by a willingness to question tradition; acceptance and celebration of human diversity; and strong emphases on women's, LBGTQ+ and other human rights, social justice, care for the poor and the oppressed, peace and reconciliation, and environmental stewardship of the earth.
Progressive Christianity connects the prophetic stream of Jewish scriptures with the basic teachings and social gospel of Jesus, leading to a central focus for contemporary Christian life on love of God and neighbors (Matthew 22:36-40).

Seating is in the round. Leadership is organic and spontaneous. 'Sermons' are whole-group conversations which explore what we believe today, and how to deepen our spiritual life.
We drink coffee in church.
And there's a lot of laughter.
